Who knows, perhaps Jonny "Huddersfield" Helm will go on to become the Phil Collins of The Wave Pictures? A habitual event of the WP's live show is Jonny stepping out from behind his kit to sing a song or two, most likely one of the three (Rev Gary Davis isn't on the 7" but you get to download it with the other two tracks) recorded for posterity here. Probably of most interest to fans, this pre-Christmas single was a nice little stopgap between the Sweetheart/Cyclone period and the Beer In The Breakers era in which we currently reside.
Despite the spotlight being on the drummer this record is of most note to me for the guitar playing. Maybe the extra concentration afforded by not having to sing focused Tattersall's energies, but the guitar on all three tracks is lovely and lyrical, like Vini Reilly at his best.
An essential WP's purchase? No. A worthwhile one? Absolutely.
