Most of my comments regarding If You Leave It Alone: the album, also stand up for If You Leave It Alone: the single. A lovely song but an odd choice. I can't really imagine this being played on the radio much. As an advert for the lp surely Bye Bye Bubble Belly would have been a better choice? Then again, I vividly recall hearing Everything I Do (I Do It For You) by Brian Adams on the radio before it came out in the early 90s and saying to a friend, "What an awful, boring song! There's no way that'll be a hit!"... so what do I know?
ReplyDeleteB-side Polar Bear is a great, fun, little ditty. The WP's are the only band I've ever bought digital downloads for, so having paid Moshi Moshi 80p, or whatever it is, for this track I was in the dark that it was a cover version until I read it on their website. Whether it sounds like a Tattersall song, or whether his voice has become so distinctive by this point that it makes it a Tattersall song, I don't know. I do know I love listening to it and when he cracks up singing the lyrics it always brings a smile to my face.
