The first fruits of the "Hayman Sessions" to be released, Little Surprise is a great song and perhaps the perfect example of the one take theory behind the recording of the new LP. There is a bit of a fluff on one of the guitar lines which is kept in, presumably because the rest of the track has such a good feel to it. I'll discuss more when I get to BITB. In the meantime lets talk about the real issue here - where is this Acuarela 7 inch?? Has anyone seen a copy? I seem to be completely unable to track a copy down online, to the extent I'm beginning to doubt its existence. Luckily, the b-side is one of the tracks on the Record Store Day bonus cd so you can hear it that way (or download it from Moshi Moshi, I suppose). I'm not sure of the recording information for this song but I'm presuming it ISN'T from the LP sessions. The horns immediately make you think "Brinks" and a female backing vocal, "Freschard". Not that I'm convinced it's her though. If anyone can clear it up I'd be appreciative. The song is a nice tune, again a really good bassline making the music special.
