The 2nd single from the Moshi Moshi debut, Strange Fruit For David really came into its own for me upon seeing the band live. The quirky chorus made the song seem, well... quirky, but after hearing 200 people singing about marmalade it became strangely moving. I was always taken by the verses though, the most Smiths-like in lyric and melody with a couple of Brett Anderson yelps thrown in for good measure. I like the violin on this version too, courtesy of Dan Mayfield who we will meet again.
Puncture My Pride is a slow burner which should be of note to WP fans as it's been called out by the band as one of their favourite tunes. As such, it seems odd that Holding Hands was added to the vinyl edition of Instant Coffee Baby rather than this song.
Anyway, third great single in a row. Why aren't they massive by this point?
Hi Daniel. Good point, well made. I do actually like Holding Hands, they just seem to sit on so much great material it seemed an odd choice. Thanks for reading!

Surely Holding Hands was added to the ICB vinyl to kickstart Side B in a way Red Wine Teeth wouldn't. Puncture My Pride is a slow one too...
