TWP Summer Catch Up

I say summer but England has been beaten down by rain rather than sun for weeks now.

The WP's seem to be wrapping up Long Black Cars with a number of festival appearances which will take them into the late-summer/autumn period.

The Lobster Boat band reconvened during this time for a brief tour. I caught them and can say once again I was stunned by how good they were. Nothing seems to have been mentioned but surely a second LP needs to be made? I guess with DT's solo instrumental record upcoming it's unlikely we'll see anything this year but hopefully getting back together made them realise what a good combination they are.

FREE SONGS in the bands own words:

THE LOBSTER BOAT BAND played their second BBC6 radio session for Marc Riley and had the time of their lives! Send an email to lobsterboatband@gmail.com and we'll send you those songs for FREE. So lucky...

Finally, an interesting article here: http://www.heavemedia.com/2012/07/17/underrated-classics-the-wave-pictures/ which calls out Sophie as a lost classic. Personally, it's my least favourite record they've done, but it's nice to see some attention and reminds me i should really get back to finishing my record by record run down of the WP's work......

  1. did you get any pictures when you saw them? i have been watching videos and wanting so badly to see another wp concert!! it would be great to see tlbb too. consider yourself lucky!

i thought the same as you about "sophie" but after reading the article the other day i have been giving it more attention and can say that i am developing an ear for it. darren hayman said to david tattersall in his interview for the 180 "isn't it strange how quickly your ears adjust" and i've thought about that idea a lot over the years when i've not liked something but then came to like it. that happens often with some of the wp songs. i don't care for the drum machine thingy on "tanzi on the phone line" but the rest of the song is great but that machine keeps me from being able to listen to it. i don't think that my ears will adjust to that, but i always try to listen to a full album as a whole and hate skipping songs but that one i often do. i've found that the rest of the album is actually quite good and glad i've come back to it again.

  2. Hi Laura - i was sure I'd replied to this but clearly not. The gig i saw was the same one at the pictures you posted from somewhere on the internet - i didn't take a camera. :(
